Refugees as Survivors New Zealand is seeking an Interpreter Co-Ordinator who is passionate about working in this dynamic area and contributing to the successful resettlement of newly arrived refugees in New Zealand.

OUR SERVICE   

Refugees as Survivors New Zealand (RASNZ) provides specialist mental health, assessment, treatment and referral services for all incoming United Nations Quota Refugees. RASNZ functions as a national resource for those involved with refugees, asylum seekers and victims of torture and severe trauma.  

 RASNZ is a twofold team, one based at the unique Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, a one-stop-shop for refugee case planning and management and orientation prior to community resettlement. The other being a community based mobile team which provide psychological services to former refugees living in the Auckland area. Interpreters are an integral part of this process at RASNZ.

The role of the Interpreter Co-Ordinator would be to source interpreters, as required, and to co-ordinate the duties, supervision, induction and training of interpreters who provide interpreting services to RASNZ.

The work is challenging, varied and highly rewarding for those wishing to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment as part of a committed and passionate team.  

Position is .2 FTE – closing date 26th April 2019

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A background in working with culturally and linguistically diverse people, including those from a refugee background
  • The ability to liaise and work with a range of organisations and agencies at the Resettlement Centre and in the community
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Previous interpreting experience desirable
  • Diploma in Interpreting and Translation or an equivalent qualification
  • Professional body affiliation desirable
